Tobey Maguire’s boyish looks have played no small part in landing him a succession of roles as the youthful hero in films such as ‘Spiderman’ or the underdog jockey in ‘Seabiscuit.’ Now, the 37-year-old actor is finally growing up on screen in ‘The Details,’ a dark comedy which marks a return to the lower budget, experimental fare favored by Maguire long before he first donned Peter Parker’s blue and red suit.

Beatles fans come together to set anniversary record

Fifty years after John Lennon’s harmonica heralded the first entry of the Beatles into the charts, fans came together in the Fab Four’s home town of Liverpool in northern England on Friday to deliver a record-breaking rendition of their debut single. Aficionados poured in from as far afield as Peru and Tokyo for a weekend of live music and Beatlemania, which kicked off with 1,631 people singing ‘Love Me Do’ outside the city’s central Liver Building.

Steve Martin has released an off-beat ad endorsing Bob Kerrey’s candidacy in Nebraska’s U.S. Senate race, in which the actor and comedian demonstrates how to build a wad of paper while cue cards offering praise for Kerrey are displayed on the screen. Martin, playing the role of ‘home crafts expert,’ mangles a blank single sheet of white paper with paper clips, scissors, staples, chewing gum and a hammer, while a hand emerges from off screen offering typed messages in praise of Kerrey.
