Former “Howard Stern” radio star Artie Lange returned to the airwaves last night — on a sports talk show — telling fans that returning to his old job on Stern would be “the greatest thing ever.”

Lange disappeared from the Stern show in January 2010 … after a private medical emergency.

But last night, Lange appeared on a Fox Sports Radio show hosted by his friend and fellow comic Nick DiPaolo and explained he had been spending time at a rehab facility in Florida to get himself sober.

A caller told Lange he couldn’t wait for Lange to return to the Stern show … and Artie replied, “That would be the greatest thing ever.”

Lange continued, “Listen, I was on the greatest show of all time for about 9 years … and I put them in a very awkward situation to say the least, so, what am i gonna do?

“But I love them all and they were great to me. I appreciate it.”

Dallas Cowboys star Roy Williams just made a $76,000 reception — snagging the engagement ring he sued beauty queen Brooke Daniels to get  back … TMZ has learned.

Williams recently filed the lawsuit against Brooke — a former Miss Texas USA — but her mom tells TMZ the ring was returned to Williams’ attorney yesterday near Houston.  

According to the suit, Williams MAILED the ring and a recorded marriage proposal to Brooke back in February … just before Valentine’s Day.

Brooke wasn’t impressed. Williams says she shot him down, they broke up … and she promised to return the ring. The Cowboys WR sued because he hadn’t gotten it back yet.

All’s well that ends.

AP – A phone-hacking scandal cost the News of the World more advertisers and a prestigious link with military veterans Thursday after another paper reported that the tabloid had collected the telephone numbers of relatives of slain troops.

Casey Anthony just received 4 years in jail  for providing false information to a police officer … but she’s not going to be locked up for the next 4 years … not even close.  She could actually become a free woman within about a month.

Anthony escaped the death penalty when the jury found her not guilty of murder.

The defense argued that Casey’s lying to cops was really just one continuous act — not 4 separate ones … and therefore Anthony should be sentenced to 1 year in jail — not 4 years (one for each lie).

Judge Belvin Perry begged to differ, calling each untruth “separate and distinct lies.”

But Anthony got credit for time already served — she’s been locked up for approximately 2 years 10 months.  The judge must still compute how much time she gets for good time credit.

The judge said he needs to do some math first … but Anthony could get out late this month or next.

First Vinnie splits … and now, The Situation?!?!?!

Mr. Sitch was strolling through Jersey yesterday, with a gaggle of chicks following behind him, when a photog asked, “Mike, are you splitting from the show or what bro?”

He didn’t exactly deny it … and when the photog wished him “luck” — Mike replied, “I don’t need luck … I don’t need it.”

Sources tell TMZ … The Situation has been antsy lately … telling producers he doesn’t need the show.

We’re told he actually WALKED OUT of the house alone yesterday after expressing his frutaration with the show … but he’s back in the house.

For now.
