Amy Winehouse — Was Planning to Adopt 10-Year-Old Girl

Filed under: Amy Winehouse, RIP Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse was preparing to adopt a 10-year-old girl from the island of St. Lucia, the girl and her grandmother told a British paper today.

The girl — Dannika Augustine (seen above with Amy) — says she met the singer during one of Amy’s visits to the island over the past few years. She says she was living in poverty with her single mom when Amy took an interest in her.

Dannika tells The Sunday Mirror, “Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me … She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.”

Dannika’s grandmother Marjorie says she spoke to Amy a few weeks ago and that Amy planned to return to St. Lucia next month. She told the paper, “Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her.”
Both of Dannika’s parents had signed off on the adoption.

Ron Artest — One Month ’til World Peace

Filed under: Ron Artest, Metta World Peace, TMZ Sports

Ron Artest is a shameless self-promoter — because over the last month, he had an L.A. newspaper print FOUR items about his new name … and it could change the way he’s identified forever.

Long story short — anyone looking to officially change their name in the State of California has to get a public declaration of the name change PRINTED in a local newspaper 4 times — once a week, 4 weeks in a row.

On July 19th, Ron’s LAST declaration to become Metta World Peace was published in the L.A. Daily Commerce — but the name change won’t become official until August 26th … when a judge is scheduled to sign the order.

Which means you have approximately four weeks to sell your Ron Artest jerseys.

George Clinton — One Killed, Three Others Shot After Concert

One person was killed and three others were shot after a fight broke out following a George Clinton concert in Cleveland last night, police tell TMZ.

Clinton performed at something called the eighth annual “Unity in the Park” festival, a free, day-long music event, which featured George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic as the headlining act.

According to police, four people suffered bullet wounds after someone opened fire in the crowd. A 16-year-old was shot in the head, a 20-year-old was shot in the neck, and a 14 and 23-year-old were shot in the leg. They were all transported to a local hospital for injuries.

Police would not say which of the four shooting victims died.

No arrests have been made.

Casey Anthony — No Interviews, I’m Getting Treatment

Casey Anthony
won’t be sitting down with ABC .. NBC … CBS or any other network for at least a couple of months — TMZ has learned Casey will be seeking professional treatment for serious mental issues instead.

Sources close to Anthony tell us … Casey is seeking treatment for three reasons:

First, Casey now realizes that her questionable behavior when her daughter Caylee went missing back in 2008 stemmed from “obvious mental health issues.”

The second reason — Casey still needs help coping with the “obvious trauma of losing her child.”

Third, Casey spent nearly three years in solitary confinement in a Florida jail … where she spent 23 hours a day in a 4×9 foot cell … all while facing murder chargers. Our source, directly connected to Casey, tells us, “It messed with her head.”

We’re told Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, will continue to field offers on behalf of Casey … and when she’s healthy, Anthony will have the final word on where and how her story will be told.
